Google has deployed some updates including Android 5.0 that contains Smart Lock features to allowing user unlock their phone without a password, PIN, pattern, fingerprint, or facial recognition. In fact the phone able to stay unlocked while it’s on you at least when the phone is moving.

Go to Android Settings and select Security.

Use of on-body detection

Once you unlock the device, it remains unlocked as long it senses a movement. When you put down the phone on the tablet, it will take about 1 minute to automatically lock. The on-body detection also detects if you walk even learns the pattern of your walk thus it can decided when it should lock. For non-stationary activity, such as on the bus, train, or car the device might take from 5 to 10 minutes to automatically lock itself.

In addition, when you are on the boat or airplane, the Smart Lock system wouldn’t lock the phone. Hence you need to manually lock it on those conditions. This features only available for a phone with a built-in accelerometer. It able to stays the phone unlocked while individual apps still require traditional security, like fingerprint, PIN, or password.

Remember that on-body detection cannot distinguish you or someone else. In case the phone has stolen, the thief may able to access your phone. Therefore, please ensure that this feature is suitable for your activity.
