Hold on, before I explain further, you need to determine how was the damage level of your USB flash drive.

If just software damage, it should be easier to retrieve the files.

But, if there any physical damage to your USB stick, it will be more tricky and practically difficult (yet I’m not saying impossible).

For this case, I’m using a freeware app called Recuva. You can download it free through Recuva Official Website and install on Windows PC.

This apps run in wizard-style and probably confuse you, whether it’s the app window or installation program.

On that window, you can choose the type of files, directory either PC internal storage or USB flash drive memory, and scan for deleted or corrupted files.

I strongly recommended you to enable deep scanning if you are trying to recover files from broken USB flash drive.

After the files were found, select it and recover to different locations. This step is essential because recover files to the same directory or devices will have less success rate.

Please keep in mind, Recuva is good enough to recover files both from excellent storage or broken one. However, the success rate is always less than 100 percent.

The developer says it should be 10 percent to 95 percent. So, if your files didn’t back, please don’t blame the developer.

The software is exceptionally great but it almost impossible to manage the horrible physical damage.
